WHY THE HEART?
The heart contains an extensive neural system and has broad communication with the brain. The heart communicates with the brain through your:
Nervous system (neural electrical network)
Heart biofeedback training helps your brain build healthier internal patterns that can lead to successful and sustainable behavioural change.
Think about it like training your nervous system - just like you would train a muscle - to strengthen your body's automatic response to life's stressors and events.
This training focuses on creating new, stable physiological baselines, instead of just treating symptoms.
Once new baselines are established the brain begins to recognize the new, more desirable, patterns and this translates to automatic self-regulation; The key to long-term, sustainable behaviour change and positive health responses.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND
The goal of heart biofeedback training is to provide you the tools and training to self-regulate the body’s autonomic nervous systems response to life’s stressors and challenges, aiming to operate from a more balanced coherent state; Optimal for a healthy functioning mind-body.
Heart biofeedback, also referred to as heart-rate variability biofeedback, is a non-invasive holistic treatment tool to support the healthy functioning of the brain and body.
THE BRAIN LOOKS FOR PATTERNS
The brain continuously monitors informational inputs to help organize perceptions, cognition, feelings and behaviours to match existing patterns.
When the brain finds a stored pattern that matches the current input (visual, sound, smell), it connects to the stored reference point and experiences it as either familiar or comfortable, even if that pattern not beneficial or even destructive.
If there is enough difference between the existing pattern in the brain, then a mismatch occurs. This triggers feelings of discomfort and even physiological responses. The body’s response can range anywhere from increased perspiration, dry mouth, mind-blanks, excessive muscle tension, quickening heart beats, peripheral vision distortion, feelings of anxiousness or panic to name a few.
